Look through the beans to find any rocks or imperfect beans, discard the bad beans. Rinse the beans over cold water to remove any dirt on beans.
Place all of the ingredients into a large pot over the stove. Bring up to a boil then let simmer covered for 3-4 hours or until the beans are tender. Stir the beans occasionally while simmering. If the water line gets too low while simmering add 2 cups of water in at a time. Enjoy!
