Everyone loves a warm homemade roll. It’s just a fact. But not everyone loves taking 3 hours to MAKE a warm homemade roll. Also a fact. So I have a solution for you warm bread lovers! I’m sharing the easiest ever One Hour Dinner Rolls recipe that can literally be made from start to finish in under 60 minutes. Make these for your next family dinner or holiday celebration.

Ingredients for One Hour Dinner Rolls

These rolls are a simple enriched dough, meaning they have fat and sugar in them to make them super soft and delicious. You should have all of these ingredients at home in your pantry already.

  • milk
  • water
  • butter
  • sugar
  • salt
  • all-purpose flour
  • rapid rise yeast (do not use active dry or instant yeast– use this brand!)

How to Make One Hour Dinner Rolls

You guys, when I tell you this is the easiest bread recipe you’ll ever try, I mean it! All you have to do is follow a few steps and you’ll be in bread heaven. So here is how to make these one hour dinner rolls.

Make the dough: First, you’ll want to mix your milk, water, butter, sugar, and salt in a bowl and microwave for about 1 minute, until it is all a little warm. It shouldn’t be hot, because that can kill your yeast. Pour all of that into your standing mixer. I absolutely love my Kitchenaid. It’s great for making cakes, cookies, bread, and anything else that I need to mix. With the dough hook attachment, add your flour and mix on medium speed for about 6-9 minutes. I always add in my flour incrementally until the dough is soft but not sticky. You might need to add more or less flour depending on your climate, the elevation, ambient temperature– lots of things.

Shape the dough: Divide the dough into 15 pieces. You can just rip off little pieces from the big hunk of dough, or you can use a bench scraper or knife to cut the dough into 3 equal pieces, then cut those into 5 pieces. Roll each little piece into a ball, then add them to a greased 9×13 baking dish.

Rise: Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 20 minutes. If your kitchen is cold, you can create a warm space by turning on your oven for 1 minute. (only let it preheat for 1 minute– don’t let it get to temperature and stay there for 1 minute. that will be too hot.) Put your dough in there, covered with a clean linen, and let it rise until the rolls look puffy.

Bake: Preheat your oven to 350 F (make sure you take your rolls out if they were rising in the oven!) and bake for 15-18 minutes. Once they’re done, brush the top of the rolls with melted butter. Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Eat warm!

Can I Make These Ahead?

Absolutely! After baking, you can let the rolls cool completely, put them in an airtight container, and put them in the freezer for up to a month. When you want to serve them, you can pull them out of the freezer a few hours before to let them thaw! If you want to heat them up again, you can brush them with a little butter once they’re thaw and throw them in the oven for a few minutes to warm back up again.
