My Pro TipS

Tips and Tricks

  • • Cut apples into similar sized slices so they bake evenly.
    • Make sure the butter is cold to get the best crisp topping.
    • Let the crisp rest before serving to help the filling thicken.
    • If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil.

Recipe FAQs – Grandma’s Old Fashioned Apple Crisp

Can I use different apples?

Yes. Any baking apple works as long as it holds its shape.

Can I peel the apples?

Yes. I prefer peeled apples for a softer texture, but it is personal preference.

Can I double the recipe?

Yes. Bake in a 9 by 13 dish and increase the cook time slightly.

Why is my topping not crisp?

The butter may have been too soft or not enough flour was added.
