These Slow Cooker Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches are an easy way to make a warm, filling dinner without standing over the stove. Thinly sliced beef cooks low and slow in a savory broth with Worcestershire sauce and seasonings until tender.

Near the end of cooking, I add sliced bell peppers and mushrooms, then pile everything onto sandwich rolls and top them with melty provolone cheese. These easy Crockpot Philly cheesesteak sandwiches are great for busy weeknights, game days, or anytime you’re craving a hearty sandwich.

Ingredient Notes

Steak: Round steak, sirloin, flat iron steak, or thinly sliced flank steak all work well. Slice the beef thinly against the grain.

Worcestershire sauce: Adds rich, savory flavor to the beef while it cooks.

Bell pepper: Green bell pepper gives these sandwiches classic Philly cheesesteak flavor.

Mushrooms: Add them toward the end so they soften without becoming overly cooked.

Provolone cheese: Melt a slice or two over each sandwich before serving.

My Cookbooks

If simple recipes like these make your life easier, both of my cookbooks are filled with easy, realistic family recipes for busy days.

How to Make Slow Cooker Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches

  1. Add the thinly sliced steak to your slow cooker along with the Worcestershire sauce, steak seasoning, beef broth, and garlic powder.
  2. Cover and cook on LOW for about 5 hours.
  3. Add the sliced green bell pepper and mushrooms and stir everything together.
  4. Continue cooking on LOW for another 30–60 minutes, or until the vegetables are cooked to your preference.
  5. Spoon the beef and vegetables onto sandwich buns and top with provolone cheese.
  6. Place the sandwiches under the broiler briefly until the cheese is melted and the bread is lightly toasted.
  7. Serve warm with some of the flavorful broth from the slow cooker on the side.

Tips for the Best Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches

  • Slice the beef thinly and against the grain for more tender pieces of steak.
  • Use a slotted spoon when transferring the beef to the buns so the sandwiches don’t become too soggy.
  • Add the peppers and mushrooms near the end rather than at the beginning so they keep some texture.
  • Watch the sandwiches closely under the broiler since the cheese can melt quickly.
