Ingredient Substitutions:

Using russet potatoes for this recipe is not necessary; it’s just what I like to use and find works the best. However, diced red potatoes or Yukon gold potatoes can work well just like they do in my sausage potato skillet recipe.

Feel free to add shredded carrots in place of the green beans or in addition to the beans for added flavor, and I find it is a great way to sneak in more vegetables and color like I do in my slow cooker chicken and veggies recipe.

Key Ingredients:

  • Sausage: This recipe is made with Kielbasa sausage links, but you can use your favorite type of sausage links, such as turkey sausage or chicken sausage
  • Potatoes: Russet potatoes are my go-to option because they are super versatile and can absorb some of the cooking liquid well to attain even more flavor

Can I add rice to the slow cooker?

I would not suggest adding rice to the slow cooker for this sausage recipe since it will soak up all of the liquid. However, you could always serve this over any fresh or leftover white rice.
