Recipe substitutions:

If you don’t have any golden potatoes, white potatoes, or baby potatoes would be a great substitute.

Recipe Ingredients:

  • Cream Parmesan Garlic Sauce: If you have ever been to Buffalo Wild Wings, you might have tried their Parmesan Garlic sauce for the wings. Now you can buy the sauce at your local grocery store, like Walmart, in the aisle by the dressings.
  • Potatoes: I like to use golden potatoes in this slow cooker recipe because they are not too starchy or waxy, making them great to pair with the main ingredients

My Pro Tip

Recipe Tips:

  • Season the potatoes before adding them to the slow cooker to make sure they are all seasoned completely for the best flavor
  • Adding the potatoes to the bottom of the slow cooker ensures they cook completely and avoids burning the bottom of the chicken
  • Reserve the cheese for the end to avoid browning the cheese

Storage Instructions:

Fridge: Put any leftover chicken and potatoes into an airtight container and store them in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Recipe FAQ’s:

Potatoes to use:

For the best results, use Yukon Gold potatoes in the slow cooker. If you use russet potatoes, they may add more starch to the sauce and thicken it up.
Slow cooker Parmesan chicken pasta or chicken broccoli skillet are great recipes if you want to skip the potatoes in this recipe.

Do I need to add more Parmesan cheese?

Yes, I like to add a little bit more Parmesan mixed with mozzarella cheese as a delicious, melty topping. You could even serve it over my alfredo noodles for even more cheesy flavor.

Fresh or frozen chicken?

For this recipe, either fresh or frozen chicken will work with this recipe. I have made this recipe both ways, and it always turns out great. You can also use chicken thighs if you don’t have any chicken breast.

Does the chicken get shredded?

In this slow cooker garlic parmesan chicken recipe, you will use the whole chicken in the slow cooker and serve it in a whole piece. However, you could chop up the chicken ahead of time; just be sure to adjust the cooking time slightly since the chicken will not take quite as long to cook.
