Ingredients for Smoked Sausage Mac and Cheese

  • Oil: olive oil or vegetable oil will work great
  • Meat: use the pre-package smoked sausage and cut it into bite-sized pieces
  • Pasta: use a box of macaroni and cheese (plus the milk and butter in the instructions on the back of the box)
  • Vegetable: get a bag frozen broccoli
  • Seasonings: you will need onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper

How to make Smoked Sausage Mac and Cheese

Slice the sausage into half moons.

To a large skillet on the stove over medium-high heat add in the olive oil once hot add in the sausage and brown on each side for 4 minutes.

Once the sausage is golden brown stir in the broccoli and seasonings cover with a lid and let cook for 10-12 minutes stirring occasionally until the broccoli is tender.

Get a large pot of water and cook the macaroni and cheese according to the package directions for al dente. Stir in the butter and milk.

Stir the macaroni and cheese into the sausage and broccoli, and serve.

How to store leftover casserole:

Fridge: If you have any of this sausage macaroni left, place the room-temperature pasta in an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. This does make for a great lunch or dinner the next day!

You can really make this recipe your own by picking your favorite sausage to use in the recipe. Whether you want to use polish sausage, beef sausage, chicken sausage, or turn this into kielbasa mac and cheese, its all going to taste amazing!

Or if you don’t think your kids will enjoy the sausage, you can always swap it out for some hot dogs too to make it extra kid-friendly.

Make this into a casserole:

If you want to make this into a simple casserole dish, after you have the sausage and mac and cheese all mixed together, you can place the ingredients into a casserole dish, top it with a little bit more shredded cheeses of your choice and some panko bread crumbs. 

Then put the dish into the oven and cook it at 350 for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted, and enjoy!

Ingredients
